The June Mission of the Month is the Chester Eastside which is a welcoming and inclusive community that enables individuals of all ages to achieve their goals and aspirations. The mission promotes a peaceful co-existence in Chester through advocacy and programs for education, social services and justice. Chester Eastside has been actively carrying out their mission since 1982. They presently collaborate with the Presbytery of Philadelphia and other local organizations, including food consortiums, to operate as one of the largest food distribution centers in Delaware County, providing monthly groceries and fresh produce to many local children and adults with over 100,000 bagged meals annually. As a major faith-based community partner for at-risk families, children, and adults of Chester this ministry provides after school programs, parenting education, G.E.D. programs, summer day camps, in addition to the food outreach services.
Rev. Bernice Warren recently retired and Rev. Zuline Wilkinson became the new Executive Director of the program in November of 2016. Rev. Wilkinson has been invited to speak to our congregation and discuss their program’s vision and mission. We look forward to welcoming Rev. Wilkinson to our church on Sunday, June 18.
